Which grades can my student enter?
New students enter in Grades 9, 10 or 11. Grade 12 is not listed as an entry grade.
Are test scores required?
Thacher requires all applicants to submit scores from either the SSAT or the ISEE. The PSAT is acceptable for 10th and 11th grade applicants. Thacher's SSAT code is 7648 and its ISEE code is 052265.
Is an interview required?
An interview is required for fall 2027 applicants. The school gives two completion dates on the same page, January 20 and January 22, 2027, so confirm the date with the admission office.
What does it cost?
$84,000 for 2026-27 (boarding) $68,050 for 2026-27 (day) Families should expect about $1,500 in additional costs for camping and riding gear, books and other academic supplies.
Does Thacher offer financial aid?
Families apply through the Clarity Application, and the school runs it alongside admission with a different deadline. A $65 submission fee is due at the end, and Clarity automatically determines fee waiver eligibility from income and assets. International students are welcome to apply for need-based aid. Aid is need-based only, with no merit scholarships, and does not cover living expenses. The $65 fee has no automatic waivers for international families.
Does need affect admission?
Thacher is not need blind, but says it aims to accept students on their own qualifications without regard to their family's financial resources.
Does every student ride a horse?
Ninth graders are paired with a horse the first week of school and are required to ride for the entire school year. New sophomores and juniors choose one athletic season to join the Horse Program.
